Welcome to Folkestone Now! - The Towns Official Website
Welcome to Folkestone, a seaside town that is currently growing and developing through a new regeneration scheme.
Over the years the town has suffered from an economic and cultural depression, but things are changing and if you knew Folkestone ten years ago and came back now, the changes are obvious and pleasing to the eye.
You only have to take a walk along the seafront to witness the development, then make your way up the old high street and see all the new galleries and shops sprouting out in all corners. Take a walk down Tontine Street and see the new artist studios being built, a new music venue and the already year old University Centre of Folkestone, UCF. Also proposed is a complete redevelopment of the harbour and a fast speed train to London from Folkestone Central.
Other developments in Folkestone consist of the Folkestone Academy, a new £38 million secondary school and in the summer 2008, the first Folkestone Sculpture Triennial will be held, an international visual art project displaying 24 artworks by some of the worlds leading contemporary artists.
But within Folkestone, there is more. Dotted around the area are some good small music venues, nice restaurants, bars and cafes, a skatepark, a few parks, a sandy beach, the warren, the Leas, an old cinema and the toll road.
For a place that once had a bad reputation it looks like the sun is starting to shine once again on this seaside town. This website has been put together to consolidate and act as an umbrella for all that is happening in Folkestone. Please look through the site and learn about this new up and coming seaside town.
